You can make a good build just clicking the largest numbers. It won't be optimal, but the best high gem Merc build for the parts few years, Lightning Forge, is literally a Fairy package and then clicking every high number. Other than that, I'll reiterate that joining the discord and asking questions is the best way to get better fast.

Around 1 T (1E12) gems, try Titan, Druid. In R0: you'll want fairy to unlock Drow/Dwarf (if you want it as early as possible) and then dwarf/elf for max profit.
