Mcintosh mc252 review.

I currently have a McIntosh MC252 which I like quite a bit. Besides the weight, there isn’t anything I don’t like about it. These can generally be picked up around $3k. The MC462 was bench tested at Stereophile. This is really the only reason I picked this particular amp. I am sure it outperforms the one I own by a pretty wide margin.Jan 26, 2022. #6. Great preamp. Mar 27, 2007 · I am currently running C220 tube preamp driving an MC252 and an MC275 biamped to kef reference series. The MC252 should be fine for your needs unless you have a large room trying to achieve high SPL'S. If you have duetta's then you are probably not listening in a large room.

The MC252 power-amp is a gorgeous looking piece of equipment too. Those lovely baby blue eyes (the VU meters that have become a McIntosh trademark) make you want to put the power-amp on display instead of hiding it somewhere. It is a tube preamp with solid state amp which has always been my favorite combination. I have had 2 McIntosh tube preamps with multiple McIntosh solid state amps. The last was C2600 preamp with M452.

McIntosh rates this amplifier at 450wpc at 2/4/8-ohm loads with their specification page citing "0.005%" THD. My tests show this to be a tad conservative where this distortion level was closer to 500wpc at this value for all loads. Again, that's 500 watts per channel at a distortion value of less than 0.005%.
